I made one for about 10 bucks. It was pretty easy and works great..

Hi Shawna, thanks for the great ideas on your blog. You sure take a lot of pains to motivate everyone to go green. Great initiative and drive – that’s the purpose of http://climatarians.org also. Hope a lot more people visit your blog and get enlightened. Great idea on rain water harvesting. We sure can save a lot of water wastage and use this precious resource more responsibly.

Thanks!

You need to fully support the bottom of the rain barrel. IF you do not you are likely to have the bottom stress so badly that it may break through. I've seen it happen and have had to tell folks that this unit can NOT be repaired. master Rain Harvester, Barry

We set up a rain catchment system this spring, and it has been fantastic! It is surprising how little rain it takes to fill it up (ours is a 250 gallon tank beneath one side of a 30' x 50' barn with a metal roof). It even collects the dew, which would otherwise evaporate in no time. We have had only minor problems with algae. We have it elevated enough to gravity flow, which is a little on the slow side, but provides a gentle stream. The overflow goes through a hose to another part of the garden. We liked it so much, we set up a second one for the other side of the barn. Thanks for your post! --blythe
