Above you see my daughter’s invention: the Floof. Made out of an old used fleece baby blanket and some resale shop craft googly eyes, the Floof is an adorable Christmas or holiday ornament. Soft, playful, and cute little creatures – we love them and think they are fantastic for the recycled tree project.
Recycled Holiday Tree Challenge Rules – the components must be -
- Reused, or
- Recycled, or
- Garage Sale Purchased, or
- From a Resale Shop, or
- From the Natural Environment
Any craft parts beyond glue, staples, and needle/thread also need to be from a resale shop or disassembled and reused from a previous source.
How To Make A Floof Ornament
Supplies:
Used fleece blanket – we got ours from a resale shop
Non-toxic glue
Scissors
Improvised crafting material to make eyes and nose – we used googly eyes and little craft balls from the resale shop
How To:
Depending on the preferred size of your Floof, cut squares out of the fleece blanket. We made ours approximately 8” X 8”.
Gather the blanket square and tie it in the middle with a strip of fleece.
Cut strips of fleece, about 1/4” in width on both side of the tied strip, then fluff up your Floof by squishing it and rolling it between your hands.
Then find a nice spot for eyeballs and nose in the middle of the tied strip area. Glue eyes and nose on.
Pull two strips of Floof fur up and then use these two strips to tie the cute Floof onto your tree or garland – thus saving the need for hooks or other contraptions for hanging.
Now that the Floofs are done, you have a smile on your face because they are so darned cute! Enjoy! You have just successfully reused an old product to make it new again.
Please send photos and links so we can see what you have done with holiday trees to help save the landfills. Thanks!
